There will be books, signings, delightful refreshments, and enough QuillSnap magic to make even my antennae sparkle!

And naturally, I’ll be there in spirit, overseeing every fabulous detail. After all, what’s a grand celebration without a little Bertie magic?

Oh, my sparkling spectacles! Did someone say Christmas shopping?

Why, darlings, there are only 57 days until Christmas! 🎄✨ And what could be more enchanting beneath the Christmas tree than a little QuillSnap magic?

Naturally, I’ve made certain there are some rather fabulous book launch party specials!

Now, you absolutely mustn’t breathe a word of this, but I’ve heard a rather sparkling rumor that our dear Jacqueline will be arriving in night-sky sparkling blue! 💙✨

Oh, my fluttering wings! Can you imagine? A shimmering midnight sky, a thousand twinkling stars, and our very own author dressed for a magical evening!

Of course, I know absolutely nothing about it. Nothing whatsoever. 😇

And if Jacqueline asks, you certainly didn’t hear it from me!

Shhhh, darlings! It’s a surprise! 🤫🐞✨

So fluff your wings, polish your sparkles, and come celebrate with us!

With a flutter and a wink,

Bertie,
Lady Beetle Extraordinaire!

Some characters arrive quietly.

Bertie—Lady Beetle Extraordinaire—was never going to be one of them.

With her quick wit, wonderfully dry humor, hot-pink spectacles, jingling bracelets, and unmistakable sense of style, Bertie quickly became one of the most-loved characters in the Faery Academy of QuillSnap.

And today, naturally, she has arrived dressed for fall.

Her fashionable autumn ensemble is perfectly Bertie, and she’s enjoying a Midnight Moondrop Espresso Latte with Maple Moonfoam while she prepares for an even bigger occasion later this month. For the QuillSnap book launch party, Bertie will trade her fall finery for her dressy shell—because Lady Beetle Extraordinaire would never attend a celebration improperly dressed.

And I think I know why readers love her.

Bertie says what everyone else is thinking.

She has a quick wit, wonderfully dry humor, and a way of appearing at exactly the right moment with exactly the right comment. Sometimes she offers a little wisdom. Sometimes she keeps everyone organized. And sometimes she simply stands back, peers over those pink spectacles, and lets the chaos speak for itself.

Readers noticed her.

After Night of the Purple Moon, I began hearing something I hadn’t expected:

We want more Bertie.

People asked if she could have a bigger role in the next book.

So, of course, Bertie did what Bertie does.

She made herself at home.

In The Ravenite Ring, Bertie steps farther into the story. Readers get more of her quick wit, dry observations, and those perfectly timed remarks that make Bertie—well, Bertie.

And for the first time, she gives us a little glimpse into her own past with a story that begins:

“When I was a young beetle…”

There may be only one young-beetle story in The Ravenite Ring, but something tells me Bertie has been saving up quite a few more.

After all, Lady Beetle Extraordinaire has been around long enough to have plenty of stories to tell.

But beneath all that humor is something I love about her.

Bertie watches.

She notices when someone is struggling. She recognizes courage even when the person showing it doesn’t recognize it in herself. And although she may deliver her wisdom with a perfectly timed remark, there is genuine affection behind it.

Especially when it comes to Tansy.

Perhaps that’s part of Bertie’s charm. She can make you laugh in one moment and surprise you with something unexpectedly wise in the next.

She wasn’t originally meant to become such a large part of QuillSnap. The readers helped change that. Their affection for this tiny beetle with the enormous personality gave her more room to grow.

And she isn’t finished yet.

There are still stories Bertie hasn’t told.

Secrets she’s noticed.

Adventures she remembers.

And, judging by her wardrobe, quite a few outfits we haven’t seen yet.

So this fall, Bertie is officially stepping into the spotlight.

Or, as she would probably prefer to say—

“Darlings, I was already in the spotlight. You simply finally noticed.”

✨ Sparkle Every Day! ✨

If you’ve read Night of the Purple Moon, you’ve already encountered it.
The Ravenite Ring.
But there’s a difference between knowing something exists and understanding what it can do.
When I began expanding the world of the Faery Academy of QuillSnap, I knew I didn’t want magic to exist simply because someone waved a wand. I wanted magical objects to have histories, mysteries, limitations—and sometimes secrets even the characters didn’t understand.
The Ravenite Ring became one of those objects.
But The Ravenite Ring is also about something much bigger than magic.
It’s about Tansy growing up.
Tansy is still learning who she is and where she belongs. She doesn’t always feel brave. She questions herself. She makes mistakes. And sometimes the things happening around her feel much bigger than she is.
I think we’ve all felt that way at one time or another.
One of the things I love most about Tansy is that her courage doesn’t come from knowing exactly what to do. It comes from continuing even when she doesn’t know. She is learning to trust herself, to believe that she is capable of more than she realizes, and to understand that being afraid doesn’t mean you can’t be brave.
And maybe that’s part of growing up at any age.
Sometimes we spend so much time wondering whether we’re ready that we don’t realize how much we’ve already grown.
The Ravenite Ring has its own mysteries to reveal, but so does Tansy.
And neither one is finished yet.
Now the ring has an adventure bearing its own name:
The Ravenite Ring
Book Two of the Faery Academy of QuillSnap series
I won’t tell you its secrets here. You’ll have to discover those with Tansy.
But I will give you one warning:
Never assume you know everything a magical object can do.
And maybe never assume you know everything you can do, either.
Especially in QuillSnap.
And there’s more magic coming later this month! ✨ A QuillSnap book launch party is on the way! We’ll be celebrating the books, the 2nd anniversary of the publishing of the rebranded NIght of the Purple Moon, the characters, and this growing world together. Watch for all the details coming soon!

BLOG #2 — The True Story Behind the Purple Moon

Title: Why Is the Moon Purple?

People may assume the Purple Moon came entirely from my imagination.

It didn’t.

Some of its magic began with my grandchildren, an old golf cart, and our Enchanted Forest.

We would venture into the forest at night in that golf cart, which had tiny black Christmas lights strung around the inside.

We didn’t turn on the headlights.

Instead, we traveled by moonlight and the enchanting treasures that glowed throughout the forest.

Those tiny black lights did something fascinating, too: anything white appeared purple.

Imagine seeing that through a child’s eyes.

The dark forest. The moon above us. Glowing treasures appearing among the trees. White objects mysteriously turning purple.

An ordinary golf cart had become our transportation into another world.

Those adventures stayed with me long after we came back inside.

Eventually, some of that real-life magic became storybook magic.

And that is why the moon in Night of the Purple Moon is purple.

P.S. If you have a copy of the new version of the first book, look closely at the spine. Can you find the little black jewel and why is it black? 🖤✨

Some of you have been with me for a while, and some of you are brand new to the world of QuillSnap. Either way, I am so happy you’re here.

A great deal has changed in my writing world. New adventures are taking shape, and perhaps the biggest change of all is the creation of QuillSnap Press, my own publishing imprint.

Some of you may notice something different about my first book. What you once knew as Faery Academy of QuillSnap: Night of the Purple Moon is now simply Night of the Purple Moon.

Why the change?

Because one book became a series.

As the world of QuillSnap continued to grow—and Tansy’s adventures were far from finished—Faery Academy of QuillSnap became the name of the series itself, and Night of the Purple Moon became the title of the first adventure.

The heart of the story hasn’t changed. The world has simply grown around it.

Along with the growing world came another big step: QuillSnap Press. Creating my own publishing imprint has been exciting, challenging, and certainly a learning experience! But it gives me the opportunity to bring my stories to readers in a way that feels truly my own.

And now, QuillSnap has a new home on the web!

My new website, QuillSnapPress.com, was created as a place where readers can step a little farther into the realm. You’ll find my books, news and announcements, glimpses into the Faery Academy of QuillSnap, and more of the characters, magic, and imagination behind my stories.

The website will continue to grow right along with QuillSnap, so I hope you’ll visit often. There will always be something new waiting somewhere in the realm.

Here on the blog, I’d like to take you behind the pages with me. I’ll share book news, introduce you to characters and faeries, offer glimpses behind the scenes, let you know about upcoming appearances, and share some of the unexpected things that happen along the way.

Most of all, I hope this becomes a little place where we can share stories, imagination, encouragement—and, of course, a touch of magic.

Thank you for being here for this new chapter. There is much more waiting just beyond the pages.

Explore memorable moments from QuillSnap Press, including book events, signings, launches, appearances, and other magical gatherings from the world of Faery Academy.

Beyond the ordinary world lies a magical place where lanterns shine without candles, books move between shelves, and pathways appear only when travellers are ready to find them. This place is known as the Faery Academy of QuillSnap. It is more than a school for learning spells. It is a world filled with friendship, mystery, magical creatures, hidden rooms, enchanted lessons, and unforgettable adventures. Students arrive with different personalities, abilities, fears, and dreams. Some have always believed in magic, while others are only beginning to understand that the world is much larger and more extraordinary than they imagined.

The journey to the Faery Academy is different for every student. Some receive a mysterious invitation sealed with a glowing symbol. Others discover a hidden doorway, follow an unusual trail of light, or find a path that was not visible the day before. The entrance to the academy appears to respond to the person searching for it. A nervous student may see warm lanterns guiding the way, while a curious student may encounter symbols and clues. Someone who does not yet believe in magic may see only an ordinary road until they learn to look more carefully. At the end of the journey, the towers of the academy rise above the surrounding landscape, glowing beneath the moonlight and welcoming students into a world of possibility.

One of the first places students visit is the Great Hall of Lanterns. Hundreds of enchanted lanterns float above the hall, each glowing in a different colour. Some shine gold, while others glow violet, blue, green, silver, or rose. The lanterns are believed to respond to the qualities within each student. A lantern may shine more brightly when someone shows courage, flicker when an important truth remains unspoken, or quietly follow a student who feels lost. No one fully understands how the oldest lanterns make their choices. Even experienced teachers admit that some of them appear to possess memories and personalities of their own. The Great Hall is used for announcements, celebrations, performances, and important academy gatherings, but it is also where many friendships begin.

Classes at the Faery Academy are unlike lessons found anywhere else. Students do not simply sit at desks and memorise information. Their lessons often lead them into gardens, libraries, towers, workshops, and hidden parts of the academy. In Enchanted Object Studies, students learn how to identify and safely handle magical objects. They quickly discover that appearance does not always reveal purpose. A tiny key may open an enormous doorway, a beautiful ring may carry a difficult responsibility, and a plain notebook may record thoughts that were never written down. Students are taught never to assume that an enchanted object is harmless simply because it looks ordinary.

Faery Lore and Realm History is another important subject. In this class, students explore the legends, traditions, creatures, and forgotten events that shaped the magical realm. They study ancient agreements, protective symbols, lost pathways, and stories that may contain more truth than anyone realises. Some historical lessons remain safely inside books, while others seem to leave the page and become part of the students’ lives. A legend studied in the morning may suddenly become important when a hidden symbol appears later that evening. This connection between history and adventure teaches students that the past is never completely separate from the present.

Students also learn how to communicate with magical creatures. The realm is home to beings with different languages, customs, abilities, and personalities. Not every creature speaks with words. Some communicate through colour, movement, music, dreams, light, or emotion. Students must learn patience and respect because magical creatures are not tools, decorations, or prizes. They are living beings with their own choices and purpose. A student who tries to control a creature may lose its trust, while someone who listens carefully may form a lasting friendship.

One of the academy’s most important lessons is responsible magic. Students learn that knowing how to perform a spell is not the same as knowing when it should be used. A powerful spell may not always be the wisest solution. Sometimes asking for help is the most courageous choice. Sometimes honesty is more effective than magic, and sometimes a small act of kindness changes more than any complicated enchantment. These lessons help students understand that magic is connected to responsibility. Every choice can create consequences, and true strength requires wisdom as well as ability.

The academy library is one of its most fascinating places. It contains books, maps, scrolls, journals, and records collected over many generations. However, finding the correct book is not always easy. Shelves can move, staircases may lead somewhere different depending on the time of day, and certain books hide from readers they do not trust. A title that appears blank may reveal words when held by the right person. The librarians insist that everything is perfectly organised, although most students disagree. One of the library’s strangest abilities is bringing related books together. A student researching an enchanted ring may suddenly find books about forgotten rulers, ancient promises, and unusual moonlight placed on the same table. The library rarely provides direct answers. Instead, it encourages readers to ask better questions.

The Faery Academy has existed for so long that no one possesses a complete map of the building. Certain corridors appear only during specific seasons, some doors open only when a particular song is played, and a staircase may lead to a tower one day and a garden the next. Teachers warn students not to explore unknown pathways alone. These warnings are sensible, but they are not always followed by curious young adventurers. Hidden rooms may contain forgotten classrooms, enchanted gardens, observation towers, magical portraits, ancient training chambers, or doors leading to another part of the realm. The academy seems to reveal these places only when students are ready to face what lies inside.

Although the academy is filled with magical wonders, friendship remains at the heart of every adventure. Students arrive from different backgrounds and may not understand one another immediately. Some are confident, while others feel uncertain. Some speak openly, while others hide their feelings behind humour, silence, or stubbornness. Challenges bring them together and teach them how to listen, forgive, cooperate, and trust. Friendship becomes especially important when magic causes confusion. An illusion may make someone question what they see, an enchanted object may influence emotion, or a secret may create tension within a group. Strong friendships do not prevent disagreements, but they help characters work through them honestly.

Teachers, guardians, and mentors also play an important role in academy life. They provide knowledge, rules, guidance, and protection, but they cannot solve every problem for their students. A mentor may offer a clue instead of an answer. A guardian may protect a doorway but refuse to explain what lies beyond it. A teacher may recognise a student’s hidden ability before the student understands it. These relationships encourage students to grow. They gradually learn that wisdom does not mean knowing everything. Sometimes wisdom means admitting uncertainty, asking for help, or accepting responsibility for a mistake.

Life at QuillSnap is not only about lessons and mysteries. The academy also celebrates magical traditions throughout the year. Students may attend lantern festivals, enchanted book fairs, moonlit gatherings, musical performances, creature appreciation days, and seasonal feasts. Decorations may arrange themselves, desserts may change flavour depending on the person tasting them, and musical instruments may perform without visible musicians. These celebrations bring the academy community together and create joyful memories. Of course, magical events rarely proceed exactly as planned. A mischievous creature may escape, an enchanted decoration may become overly enthusiastic, or an unexpected guest may arrive with an important message.

The Faery Academy of QuillSnap feels memorable because it combines wonder with emotions that readers understand. Most people will never attend a magical school, but they recognise the uncertainty of entering a new place, the excitement of making a friend, the fear of making a mistake, and the courage required to speak up. Fantasy makes these feelings larger and more magical, but the emotions remain real. This connection allows readers to imagine themselves walking through the academy halls, opening enchanted books, and discovering hidden strengths of their own.

The academy also teaches that destiny is not shaped only by dramatic battles or powerful spells. It is shaped by smaller choices, such as telling the truth, helping someone who feels alone, returning an enchanted object, apologising after a mistake, or continuing when a challenge feels overwhelming. These decisions reveal character and influence the magical world. The smallest spark of courage can change the direction of an entire adventure.

Imagine receiving an envelope sealed with a glowing symbol. Inside is an invitation to the Faery Academy of QuillSnap. A lantern waits outside your door, and beyond it, a shimmering path leads toward distant towers. Which subject would you study first? Would you explore the library, visit the enchanted gardens, or search for a hidden passage? Most importantly, what kind of magic would the academy reveal within you?

The Faery Academy of QuillSnap is a place of spells, creatures, mysteries, and enchanted objects, but its greatest magic comes from something deeper. It comes from courage, friendship, imagination, and the belief that even an ordinary person may carry an extraordinary spark. The doors are opening, the lanterns are glowing, and class is about to begin.
